For centuries it moved along the Indian Ocean trade routes as currency, light enough to carry by the sackful and near impossible to counterfeit, and it reached deep inland long before minted coin did. It never entirely left. You still find cowries stitched into Banjara mirror-work, knotted into Rajasthani tassels, and worked through the folk jewellery of the north-east.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.7; color: #5a534a; margin: 0 0 12px;\"\u003eBlock printing has a similar habit of outlasting things. A carved wooden block is used until the pattern wears soft, and then it is recut.
