Diwali is five evenings, not one. Each has its own job: a puja, a dinner, the lamps, the visits, a brother at the door. The earrings that work are the ones you forget you are wearing by the third hour, so this guide is sorted by weight first and by occasion second. Every pair below is made by hand in Ahmedabad on a fabric base, and every weight is from our own scale.
Why weight decides the Diwali earring
A festive evening in India runs three to five hours, most of it standing. The pairs in our handmade jewellery range weigh between 4 g and 12 g a pair because the body of each piece is wrapped cloth over a light base, with the metal limited to the hook, the fittings and the ghungroo or bead fringe. We have written about the trade-offs in fabric earrings versus metal earrings. The short version: fabric gives you size without the pull on the ear.
Five evenings, five pairs
This year Dhanteras falls on Friday 6 November and Diwali on Sunday 8 November, with Kali Chaudas between them. There is a gap day on Monday this year, so New Year's Day is Tuesday 10 November and Bhai Dooj Wednesday 11 November.
Dhanteras, Friday 6 November: a stud that goes from desk to puja
For most people Dhanteras is a working day with the puja and the shopping squeezed into the evening. A stud does both. The Ghungroo Stud Earrings are 1.5 in across with a cluster of iron ghungroo on a cotton face, 8 g a pair, ₹1,499. The Ibrik Accents studs are the plainest pair we make, a flat fabric disc on a push-back post, ₹999, and the easiest pair to wear to an office.

Kali Chaudas, Saturday 7 November: a jhumka for the family dinner
The night before Diwali is usually the long dinner. A jhumka moves when you talk and catches the lamp light, and at 8 g a pair ours are light enough for the whole evening. The Laalbagh jhumka is a navy fabric dome with a red lotus and a dense silver-toned bead fringe, 2 in long, ₹1,499. The Kesari Gul jhumka is the same size in warm orange, burgundy and ivory. Every print in our jhumka edit is 2 in long and 8 g a pair.
Diwali, Sunday 8 November: the chandbali
Diwali night is the one evening that asks for the biggest shape. The Blue Chandbali keeps the crescent, sets it on a navy polka-dot fabric face with a kundan top and a fringe of silver-toned ghungroo, and weighs about 12 g a pair at 1.5 in across, ₹1,599. It comes in blue, rani pink, purple, teal green and maroon, each on its own page. If you are torn between the two classic shapes, chandbali versus jhumka settles it.
New Year's Day, Tuesday 10 November: tassels for the visits
Saal mubarak is a day of short visits and a lot of doorsteps. The Black Bloom tassel earrings are a black fabric disc with a cluster of five pearl beads and a cotton tassel, 3.9 in long and only 7 g a pair, ₹999. Black sits with every colour you own, which matters on a day with three outfit changes. For something sharper, the Geometric Ghungroo Earrings are a 3.3 in diamond of pink stripe and cobalt with a ghungroo edge, 8 g, ₹1,299.

Bhai Dooj, Wednesday 11 November: small and light
The last day is a lunch, a tilak and a gift. The Leher leheriya studs are 1.3 in and 4 g a pair, among the lightest pairs we make, ₹999. The Floral Kundan Earrings are a 1.3 in drop at 9 g, ₹1,499, if the lunch is a dressed-up one.
What to wear them with
Black and navy are the easiest Diwali earring colours because they read against ivory, gold, red and green without matching anything. A jhumka wants a plain neckline and hair tied back. A chandbali wants the hair down or a low bun so the crescent has room. For the outfit side of the same five days, see what to wear for Diwali 2026, and for saree evenings which earrings suit which saree.
If you are gifting a pair
Fabric earrings travel well and fit a small box. We dispatch in 2 to 4 days and courier transit across India is 5 to 10 days, so allow up to 14 working days if the pair has to arrive before 6 November. Delivery is free on orders from ₹999. Jewellery is not returnable, so choose by the weight and size lines on each product page, which are measured on the actual piece. The wider Diwali gifts guide covers the rest of the table.
Frequently asked questions
Are fabric earrings heavy?
No. Our pairs weigh 4 to 12 g a pair. The body is wrapped cloth over a light base, so even the 3.9 in tassels are 7 g.
Which earrings for Diwali with a saree?
A chandbali or a jhumka. Match the fringe metal to your blouse hardware and keep the neck bare.
Can I wear a jhumka to work on Dhanteras?
Yes. At 2 in and 8 g the fabric jhumkas sit quietly against the neck; the studs are the safer choice for a long day at a desk.
Can earrings be returned?
No. Jewellery is non-returnable for hygiene reasons, which is why every page lists size and weight.
