Lifafa means envelope, and that is the shape: a flat fabric envelope, 9 by 4.5 inches, with a flap that closes on a press stud. Inside there is room for a phone (an iPhone 17 Pro Max goes in), one money slot and two card slots, and at 42 g it weighs less than the phone it carries.

Raat Rani is the black and maroon one: black and maroon Ajrakh-pattern print in blocks: round floral medallions ringed with cream dots, and cream paisley sprays, the classic Kutch geometry. Each Lifafa is cut, lined and sewn by hand by one curator in our Ahmedabad studio, about three hours for one wallet, in a single piece per print. More prints are in Lifafa Air Wallet.

The Story

Raat Rani is the jasmine that opens after dark, and this is the night print of the set: an Ajrakh pattern in blocks of black and deep maroon, round floral medallions ringed in cream dots beside cream paisley sprays, the geometry that Kutch block printers have repeated for centuries. Here that pattern is printed on the fabric.

It is the one to carry with a black kurta or a black dress and let the maroon do the talking. One piece, cut, lined and sewn by one curator in our Ahmedabad studio, about three hours.

Wear It

Three ways	Inside a bag as the wallet; on its own as a slim evening clutch with the phone, cards and a lipstick inside; or as the one thing you carry to the shop, the metro or a walk.
Day	In the tote with the laptop, or in the hand with a kurti and jeans: the flap keeps everything flat and the stud keeps it shut.
Out at night	Dinner, a sangeet, a reception: the wallet is the clutch. Phone, two cards, notes, and nothing to check in a bag.
Travel	Boarding pass folded in the money slot, cards in front, phone behind: one envelope through security.
Gift	Flat, light, and it posts in an envelope of its own; a Secret Santa draw or a Christmas gift for someone who carries too much.

Questions

Is this a wallet or a clutch? Both. Closed, it is a 9 by 4.5 inch envelope wallet that goes inside a bag. Carried on its own, with the phone and cards in it, it is a slim clutch for an evening. The envelope shape is what makes it work both ways, which is why the same piece gets called a clutch wallet, a long wallet, a cloth wallet or an envelope purse.

Which phones fit? An iPhone 17 Pro Max fits, and so does any phone smaller than that. A very thick case can make it snug; a slim case goes in without a thought.

How many cards does it hold? Two card slots at the front, plus the money slot behind them, which takes notes folded once or a stack of extra cards. With a full set of cards and a phone inside it still closes flat.

Does it stay slim? Yes. It weighs 42 g empty, there is no hardware beyond the press stud, and the flap closes over a phone, cards and notes without bulging. That is why we call it the Air Wallet.

Is this a hand block printed ajrakh purse? No. The ajrakh pattern is printed on the fabric; it is not hand block printed or resist-dyed. The wallet itself is cut, lined and sewn by hand by one curator in our Ahmedabad studio, about three hours for each one.

How do I clean it? Wipe with a damp cloth; do not soak or machine wash it. Keep it out of the rain and air it flat. Do not iron over the press stud.
