House notes

In the maker's hand

The Rani Pink chandbali keeps the traditional crescent silhouette, built on a pink and white tie-dyed fabric in the bandhani manner, with a kundan setting at the top and a row of ghungroo bells along the drop. Because the crescent is a fabric-covered base rather than cast metal, a 1.5-inch drop still sits light on the ear. Handcrafted in Ahmedabad for weddings, festivals and every occasion that deserves a little more. Rani pink is the brightest of the five: it lifts a plain kurta, suits haldi and mehendi mornings, and looks happiest in daylight.

Chandbalis are one of the oldest earring forms in Indian jewellery. Ours updates the classic shape with saturated colour and the sound of ghungroo at the base: festive without the weight, comfortable over long hours, and it catches light in a way that photographs well. The same design comes in five colours, each on its own page; see them all in our earrings collection.

Wear these with a kurta and the outfit is done. The earring carries the look; everything else can be simple.

The Story

The chandbali is named for the crescent moon it is shaped like. It is one of the oldest earring forms in Indian jewellery, worn for generations at weddings and festivals. We make ours by hand in Ahmedabad, building the crescent on a fabric-covered base rather than casting it in metal, then adding colour, a kundan setting and a row of ghungroo bells. Weighing it against a jhumka? Read chandbali or jhumka: how the two shapes differ.

Wear It
For a function With a kurta; let the earring carry the look and keep the rest simple.
With a plain kurta Against white, cream or a soft yellow, where the pink does the talking.
With bangles With the Rangriti Pink mirror work bangles or the Gulshan co-ord set.
Questions

Is this chandbali heavy? No. The crescent is a fabric-covered base rather than cast metal, so the full drop stays light enough to wear all evening.

What is the kundan? A kundan-style setting at the top of the crescent, with the fabric body and the ghungroo row below it.

Can they get wet? No. Keep them away from water and perfume and wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing.

Is this colour one of a kind? There is one pair in rani pink. The other four colours each have their own page.

Can they be returned? No. Jewellery is non-returnable. If a pair arrives damaged or incorrect, write to us within 48 hours of delivery.

Care
  • Last thing on, first thing off, keep away from water, perfume, lotion and sweat.
  • Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after each wear.
  • Store in a dry pouch or box, kept separate so pieces don’t scratch or tangle.
  • Neckpieces: store flat so the chain does not tangle and the fabric does not crease.
  • Fabric, kundan and ghungroo pieces: never wet; keep away from moisture.
  • Never machine wash, soak or iron any piece.

Each piece is handcrafted, so tiny differences in colour and finish are expected and make yours one of a kind.
