The Riwaayat Kesar earrings: a mustard fabric triangle printed with a sunburst around a small round mirror, finished with a row of antique-finish ghungroo bells along the base. Kesar is the sunny one: mustard with a small mirror at the centre that catches the light. Light enough to forget you have them on.

The Story

Riwaayat means tradition, and specifically the kind carried by practice rather than written down. No block-printer learns the work from a manual. They learn by standing beside someone who already knows how hard to press, how wet the dye should be, and exactly where the next block has to land.

Against that we set the ghungroo, the small bell a Kathak dancer ties in rows at the ankle so that movement can be heard as well as seen. Each one is tied on by hand, one at a time. Put the two together and you get an object with two registers, a print you look at and a sound you catch when you turn your head. Handcrafted in Ahmedabad.

Wear It

Everyday	With a cotton kurta or a handloom saree, for work and after.
With indigo	With indigo, white or black: mustard and a mirror glint against a plain ground.
Keep it plain	Against a printed outfit these compete. Let the print on the ear be the only one in the room.

Questions

Are they heavy? No. They are fabric with small bells, not cast metal, so they are light enough for all day.

How do they close? With a stud and a push back.

What do yellow mirror earrings go with? White, indigo, black and olive. The small mirror catches light, so keep the outfit plain.

Can they get wet? No. Keep them away from water and perfume and wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing.

Care

Last thing on, first thing off, keep away from water, perfume, lotion and sweat.
Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after each wear.
Store in a dry pouch or box, kept separate so pieces don’t scratch or tangle.
Neckpieces: store flat so the chain does not tangle and the fabric does not crease.
Fabric, kundan and ghungroo pieces: never wet; keep away from moisture.
Never machine wash, soak or iron any piece.

Each piece is handcrafted, so tiny differences in colour and finish are expected and make yours one of a kind.
